Our special chloride-reduced NatureHolic Saltea Caridina Hardening Salt is a fast-dissolving hardening salt designed for all Caridina shrimp from soft water biotopes, such as Bee Shrimp, Caridina cantonensis, and high-grade Caridina like Boa, Galaxy, and others. It is also suitable for other dwarf shrimp that require soft water in the aquarium.
Many invertebrates, and especially aquatic plants in freshwater, are known to be sensitive to chloride ions. Many conventional aquarium hardening salts contain significant amounts of sodium chloride, which can lead to issues such as the proliferation of algae like the red algae Thorea ramosissima in soft water aquariums—an indicator of chloride presence as it typically occurs only in brackish water. To address this issue, we have formulated NatureHolic Saltea Caridina with minimal chloride content—up to 80% less chloride than comparable products.
Maintaining low carbonate hardness (KH) is crucial for keeping Caridina shrimp from soft water biotopes. We have carefully considered this requirement in the composition of our NatureHolic Saltea Caridina Hardening Salt. Tested and approved in one of Germany’s largest invertebrate facilities in Mannheim, NatureHolic Saltea Caridina has proven to be effective.
The chloride-reduced NatureHolic Saltea Caridina Hardening Salt enriches the water with essential minerals and trace elements, and is used to remineralize osmosis water, activated carbon filtered rainwater, or distilled water.
Not only do dwarf shrimp benefit from the optimal composition of minerals and trace elements in NatureHolic Saltea Caridina Hardening Salt for soft water aquariums, but also the aquarium plants and beneficial filter bacteria that rely on a good supply of trace elements and minerals to break down pollutants in the aquarium. The significantly reduced chloride content is also advantageous for aquarium plants and beneficial bacteria.
NatureHolic Saltea Caridina Hardening Salt increases general hardness (GH) and carbonate hardness (KH) in a GH/KH ratio of 1/0.2, creating an environment where shrimp from soft water habitats thrive. It also provides an ideal calcium-magnesium-potassium ratio of 2:1:0.5 for plant growth, promoting natural soft water conditions and enhancing the well-being of aquarium inhabitants.
Usage Instructions: Stir the chloride-reduced hardening salt into fresh water outside the aquarium. Add any undissolved particles to the aquarium. Reseal the container tightly after each use.
Dosage: 10 g per 100 liters increases carbonate hardness by 0.7 °dKH, general hardness by 3.4 °dGH, and conductivity by approximately 120 µS/cm. One level teaspoon equals approximately 5 g. Optimal target values for soft water Caridina shrimp are: 1 °dKH, 5 °dGH, and 200 +/- 50 µS/cm.
